brochure

When representing a client who has been charged with fraud, an innovative defense is needed.

Your reputation is at stake with every case you take. Knowing if your client has provided you truthful information is critical. The evidence you gather or fail to gather directly affects the result you achieve for your clients. It is important to hire a professional fraud investigator who knows what information to look for and where to find it to help you strategize and strengthen your case so you can build a strong defense.

When you are in need of accurate facts, a complete unbiased picture and someone highly experienced with fraud, look no further than Cadfael Investigative Group, Inc.

The services we provide reflect the investigative skill, knowledge and experience we have gained through 35 years of education, training and conducting investigations firsthand. We know when, where and how much of a particular skill to utilize to obtain the information you need. We are thorough, professional and have honed the skill of testifying. We provide you a comprehensive investigation and detailed report.

Before we start to work your case it is imperative that we consult with you to assure we are on the same page. We listen carefully to the challenges your client is facing; gather all the information you have; gain insight into the case; discuss the goals to be achieved; and suggest strategies and tactics to resolve those challenges in the most advantageous manner.

Analysis of Police Reports: It is critical to your case that nothing be taken at face value. We know and understand this. Therefore we obtain all police reports, follow-up reports and witness statements that pertain to your case. We then analyze these reports to determine if anything has been omitted or forgotten. We then identify and follow up on investigative leads that were addressed by the police.

Background Investigations: We conduct comprehensive background investigations and provide you with a complete report to assist you in building your strategy. Background investigations provide insight about a witness to the incident or crime, a prosecution witness or an expert witness. It is to your advantage to have a comprehensive background investigative report as soon as possible to discover the following:

  • Witnesses: To determine any prior involvement or credibility.
  • Victims: To determine prior contact with the perpetrator or similar situations or events.
  • Expert Witnesses: To verify their credentials and obtain information about previous experiences of providing expert testimony.

Credibility Check: Credibility is crucial to your case. We gather and analyze information to help eliminate surprises pertaining to the credibility of victims, witnesses and experts.

Crime or Incident Scene Analysis: Scrutiny of the site where the crime or incident occurred is critical to obtain the big picture. We visit and analyze the geographical point where the crime or incident occurred to find clues that will give us a greater understanding of what happened to whom and who witnessed it. We photograph and gather all possible evidence and document it properly.

Diagrams: Diagrams of the crime or incident scene give a greater understanding of what occurred. We diagram the scene and use these drawings in our follow-up interviews with the subject, victim and witnesses. This allows us to increase our knowledge of what happened and identify the relative positions of those involved. This will give greater clarity to your case.

Fraud Investigations: We provide you a complete analysis of the fraud scheme your client is accused of implementing. In this analysis we provide you with representations made by your client, to whom they were made, what complainants relied on and factors that may have affected your client’s ability to perform.

Information Analysis and Verification: Gathering information is only part of an investigation. Verifying the accuracy and reliability of this information makes for a comprehensive investigation. Many times during this process important information that stood alone does not have much impact, but combined with the rest of the information, it results in a clearer picture. We understand this, have the skill, and take the time to properly analyze and verify the information we gathered for accuracy and reliability. Once we have done this we correlate the information and provide it to you in a usable and easy to understand format.

Police and Detective Interviews: Learning what the responding police officers and detectives know is important to your case. Our experienced investigators interview the responding police officers and the detectives assigned to conduct follow up investigations to determine if all information in the case has been gathered and properly documented.

Pre-Deposition Interviews provide a clear understanding of what the witness recalls. This allows for precise questions to be asked, and succinct answers to be given — no more, no less. This will eliminate the element of surprise and strengthen the position of the case, which will give you an advantage.

Our experienced investigators are astute interviewers. We conduct our interviews in a less formal, more relaxed environment. We are highly trained to ask the right questions, listen closely and analyze what is being said and not said. We observe and understand the non-verbal aspects of the interviewee’s reactions. We probe deeper with the right questions at the right times to obtain any additional information and to ascertain the accuracy of the statements.

Many times, reviewing the incident helps the witness recollect more of the event. After the interview we provide you a detailed memorandum of the interview.

This process provides you an interview roadmap and an assessment of the credibility of the witness.

Reports: We provide well-written and timely reports that allow you to make sound decisions that have a positive impact on your case.

Surveillance: We conduct effective and efficient surveillance investigations to gather insight and information that cannot be gathered through other investigative tools.

Testifying: Another skill a professional investigator needs to possess is the ability to testify soundly and credibly. One can study how to testify, practice and prepare, but the honing of this skill is done through experience. Experience teaches us what not to do, where education only teaches us what to do.

Cadfael investigators are experienced in testifying. We have testified in federal and state courts, before magistrates, at both civil and administrative proceedings. We make a good impression on the trier of fact. We dress appropriately, behave properly and speak with confidence and respect. We are confident in our investigative protocols and findings. Our testimony reflects that a thorough investigation has been conducted and can withstand hostile and aggressive cross examination without being discredited or diminished.

> Back

Timelines: We create timelines to illustrate how the crime or incident evolved. Many times the timeline will assist with developing a strategy.

> Back

Victim Interviews: Victim interviews provide relevant information and facts of the crime or incident. We interview victims to obtain information that will provide a more complete picture of what occurred.

> Back

Witness Identification: Witness identification is critical to your case. Through the crime scene analysis, incident reports, and canvassing we are able to identify witnesses to the crime or incident in question. Once we identify all possible witnesses, we then interview them, even if they claim not to have seen anything, so you do not have any surprise witnesses in court.

> Back

Witness Interviews: Witness interviews will provide relevant information and facts of the crime or incident. We interview all witnesses, even those who claim to have seen or heard nothing. We do this to obtain all information that provides a more complete picture of what occurred and eliminates surprises in court.
